Google about to launch Flash API for Maps

Google just published a page detailing how Flash developers can now use the Google Maps ActionScript API. Unfortunately, as of right now all the samples still don’t work, but based on the documentation from a guy who has never made anything in Flash, it looks pretty easy to use.

This API lets Flex developers embed Google Maps in Flash applications. Similar to the JavaScript version, this ActionScript API provides a number of utilities for manipulating and adding content to maps through a variety of services, enabling you to embed robust, interactive maps applications on your website.

This new API is completely independent from the current javascript version, and it even lets you easily mix flash content with Google Maps. I can’t wait to see interesting new mashups that take advantage of this new API. This feature has been long requested by Flash developers — I’m sure there will be much rejoicing.
